What with one distraction and another, this has been the kind of week where I considered wearing my shoes on the correct feet a victory. So, sitting down to compose this edition of E-Musings, the ideas pinged around in my brain like a video game. And then it hit me: maybe I need to just let them ping, and embrace the randomness (for this week anyway). And so, without rhyme, reason or theme, here we go…
FEELING PUNK? JUST HOW PUNK DO YOU FEEL?
This is a vast improvement over those frowny-face pain level charts, proof that you can be cultured AND in agony at the same time…
COLLECTIVELY SPEAKING…
We all know it’s a gaggle of geese, a school of fish, and a pride of lions, right? But did you know that it’s also…
An army of frogs? A congregation of alligators? A smack of jellyfish? A mischief of mice? A bloat of hippopotami? A conspiracy of lemurs? A parliament of owls?
Well, now you do.
Peacetime Army Frog
COMEDY: “Chicken Soup for the Soul-Crusher”
I’ve had essays in two Chicken Soup for the Soul books, and am always checking the titles of their books in progress, so see if one of my pieces might be a fit. Here’s my dream theme, written for The Belladonna Comedy:
CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL-CRUSHER
MORE COMEDY!
A “walrus walked into a bar” joke from Peter, my favorite stand-up guy, at age four (wish I had his timing!)
MUSIC: “Tea for Two”
Piano powerhouse (and Sheridan’s fellow Curtis alum) Yuja Wang can play anything, and with incredible style and skill, from Bach to Rachmaninoff to…Art Tatum’s jazzy arrangement of “Tea for Two.” Enjoy!
BLOG PREVIEW: News flash! Men think about the Roman Empire…A LOT. Not too surprising, eh? It was a swell time to be a MAN (think gladiator! Conqueror! Latin language-spreader!) But pray tell, what do we women most often think about? Over at Working Title tomorrow, I’ll have the answer(s)!
INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
“Great is the art of beginning, but greater is the art of ending.”
—Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
And so ends this edition of the newsletter, but the week is still young, my friends. Let’s fill each day with meaning and joy, and let’s finish strong!!
