My gang, many autumns ago…
Lots of changes in the air this week!! Autumn begins AND…
Peter will be seven on Saturday! Though he’s the younger brother, Peter plays second fiddle to no one; he is proudly (even at times defiantly) himself. He loves playing “stuff” with Aiden (usually intricate stories involving their Lego creations), and making art.
WE love the way his mind works…two examples:
On the beach in August, Peter was asked by his Mama, '“Where are your shoes?” His response: “Wherever you find them, there they are!” Can’t argue with that.
Then Peter showed me two drawings of fish he made, and said,
“Nana, look! This one is non-fiction:
and this one is fiction.”
Spoken like a writer’s grandchild, right??
MUSIC: A reflection on life by the Danish band Lukas Graham…
COMEDY: While I’m pleased with my book sales, of course I dream of the NYT bestseller list. Surprise! Shakespeare apparently still cares about HIS sales too…my comedy piece for Jane Austen’s Wastebasket:
I’M WM. SHAKESPEARE AND I’D LOVE YOU TO BUY MY WORK SO THAT DANIELLE STEEL DOESN’T OUTSELL ME
POEM: by the incredible Mary Oliver…welcome to Fall…
SONG FOR AUTUMN
Don’t you imagine the leaves dream now
how comfortable it will be to touch
the earth instead of the
nothingness of the air and the endless
freshets of wind? And don’t you think
the trees, especially those with
mossy hollows, are beginning to look for
the birds that will come—six, a dozen—to sleep
inside their bodies? And don’t you hear
the goldenrod whispering goodbye,
the everlasting being crowned with the first
tuffets of snow? The pond
stiffens and the white field over which
the fox runs so quickly brings out
its long blue shadows. The wind wags
its many tails. And in the evening
the piled firewood shifts a little,
longing to be on its way.

Feeling a little squeezed these days? Me too! Let’s chat about living in the tight places over at Working Title tomorrow!
INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
Even if things are tough, today IS a wonderful day just because it is brand new and still, full of possibility. Look around you this week, my friends, and take time to marvel!
