I thought this week it’d be fun to touch base with our animal friends, as depicted in song and story…
PICTURE BOOK: ANIMALIA BY GRAEME BASE
Every page of this gorgeously illustrated book is a treasure hunt, with images that all begin with one of the letters of the alphabet. Example: “Ingenious Iguanas Improvising an Intricate Impromptu on Impossibly Impractical Instruments.”
Here’s a thoughtful exploration of “Animalia”…well worth checking out!
COMEDY: MIKE BIRBIGLIA
If you aren’t familiar with Mike Birbiglia, allow me to introduce you to one of my favorite comedians. Mike first came to my attention with his (highly recommended) movie Sleepwalk With Me (which, by the way, my Rose helped edit!) I’ve since seen him perform in person, and he is SO funny and charming. Here’s his hilarious riff on a literal cat and mouse game, performed during a live presentation of “This American Life” at the Brooklyn Academy of Music…
MUSIC: THE ANIMAL SONG
And while we’re on the subject—enjoy Savage Garden’s contagiously upbeat “The Animal Song!” Let’s party like it’s 1999, shall we?
ESSAY: MY SNAIL FACIAL CHANGED MY LIFE
A humor piece I wrote for Greener Pastures, in which I have goofy fun with the humble escargot…as a beauty treatment?
RECIPE: Lion’s Head
A simple and delicious Chinese dish of pork meatballs that fits our theme this week!

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE OF THE WEEK: from the great Jane Goodall…
Hey, chimps are FAMILY, guys! Let’s be good to them—and all of God’s creation.
Have a wonder-filled week!
